Tales From African Traditions

Drawing from her own travels, internationally known storyteller Valerie Tutson brings to life an assortment of myths, folktales and historical accounts from the African continent and the African Diaspora. Tailoring the material to the grade level of her audience, she shows students the beauty, humor and wisdom of tales which help to illuminate parts of the diverse and ancient cultures of Africa.

Program available in person, live online, or as a pre recorded video including one virtual artist visit.

Processing Fee of $30 added to all contracts

Live Online

School sets up link for remote meeting and makes the artist a co-host. Screen share must be enabled. Artist may need to sign on 20-30 minutes prior to the meeting to check sound levels. A representative from the school must be on the call to facilitate Q+A and mute students as needed. Please introduce the performer as a Young Audiences of Massachusetts artist.

 

Pre-Recorded

School has access to the video for one week unless otherwise stated in contract. Do not distribute video link outside of the agreed upon parties. Downloads are prohibited. Please introduce the performer as a Young Audiences of Massachusetts artist.

 

In-Person
Provisions:

  • 1 reserved parking space
  • Microphone on stand (please set up in advance)
  • Straight back chair
  • Small table, student desk, or piano bench
  • Bottle of water

Arrival time before first performance: 30 minutes

Strike time: 5 minutes

Time needed between performances: 15 minutes.

Teachers are expected to model appropriate audience behavior for their students.
