Healing Arts for Kids Expanded Arts Access

Healing Arts for Kids

Healing Arts for Kids, our nationally recognized initiative, provides arts residencies, workshops, and performances for children experiencing physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges in hospitals, schools and other adapted learning environments. Our trained, professional teaching artists provide experiences in the arts that:

  • Initiate artistic, social, cultural, and academic engagement
  • Facilitate creativity, imagination, empowerment, and laughter
  • Cultivate feelings of hope, often hidden when children are critically ill, faced with crisis, or chronic dysfunction
  • Provide distraction from discomfort and pain
  • Initiate connections among children, families, artists, and staff through programs that foster education and well-being

Since 2004, Healing Arts for Kids residencies have provided free and subsidized, arts learning programming to young creatives with disabilities at the following sites:

  • Carter School, Boston
  • Cotting School, Lexington
  • Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Jimmy Fund Clinic, Boston
  • Floating Hospital for Children/Tufts Medical Center, Boston
  • Franciscan Hospital for Children, Kennedy Day School, Brighton
  • Massachusetts Hospital School, Canton
  • McLean Hospital, Child/Adolescent Inpatient Mental Health Program, Brighton
  • Shriners Burn Hospital for Children, Boston
  • Kevin O'Grady School, Northshore Education Consortium, Beverly
  • Lawrence High School: Special Education Practical Academics, Lawrence
