Wongai! Rhythms of West Africa, Brazil & the Caribbean
Discover celebratory West African dances and their adaptations in Brazilian and Caribbean cultures, set to the rhythms of African drumming in an interactive performance that is guaranteed to bring all ages to their feet. This program features authentic costumes and instruments and can be adapted to include narration on African art, culture, and history.
Program available in person, live online, or as a pre recorded video including one virtual artist visit.

Live Online
School sets up link for remote meeting and makes the artists co-hosts. Screen share must be enabled, however please turn off ‘annotation’ feature. Artist may need to sign on 20-30 minutes prior to the meeting to check sound levels. A representative from the school must be on the call to spotlight artist video, facilitate Q+A and mute students as needed. Pre-Recorded:
School has access to the video for one week unless otherwise stated in contract. Do not distribute video link outside of the agreed upon parties. Please introduce the artists as an Arts for Learning Massachusetts ensemble.
In-Person:
Provisions:
- 1 reserved parking space
- 1 armless chair
- Microphone (if available)
- Water for 3 performers (if performing more than once)
- Please provide a school representative to introduce the ensemble at the beginning of each performance.
- Performance Space: 20’ by 20’ clean wooden floor (swept and wet-mopped)
Arrival time before first performance: 30 minutes
Strike time: 10 minutes
Time needed between performances: 15 minutes
Teacher participation is appreciated.
