Expanding Horizons Through Music
Expanding Horizons Through Music (EHTM) uses group music-making activities to teach foundational literacy and social skills to preschool students who are homeless or at risk.
Students participate in weekly classroom music sessions throughout the year using simple percussion instruments a provided to them by EHTM, and engage with interactive performance programs from YAMA artists and from students from the New England Conservatory of Music.
Classroom Teachers participate in the classroom sessions led by our teaching artists and participate in professional development sessions and conferences to learn how to effectively integrate music into their teaching.
Parents and Guardians are engaged through special events, bi-lingual e-newsletters, and customized, bi-lingual songbooks and recordings featuring musical learning activities they can do with their kids
Site Partners are engaged throughout the planning, implementation and evaluation process, working toward the goal of running the program themselves more and more autonomously until our direct, weekly administration is no longer needed.
CURRENT SITE PARTNERS
“Through these experiences, the children are not only learning about new instruments, cultures, movement, and language, they are also gaining confidence and broadening their life experiences.
